Supplies Drive for Honors in Action

Donations:

Finally we are holding our first event for HIA: School Supplies Drive! What we want to do is collect any, new or used, school supplies that you or anyone would be willing to donate. When one has something new to supply to HIA we will be saving that for future events we will be holding to give away as gifts in a backpack or for their own reward of coming to events. Something donate that is used will actually be used within the events and we will be working to make those donations last the most possible times possible.

Purpose of the event:

We want to spread awareness of the issue of children living in shelter homes, soon we will be working with children living in foster homes, and the situation they face when it comes to education. Sadly, children who live in shelter homes (usually 2-3, max 6 months) do not have a permanent school to be a part of because they face relocation. We could go on and on with a description, but that would be up to the reader to either read or skip to a bottom line. The purpose of the event is meant to share awareness and have a conversation with everyone who stops by at the table and only then will it be expressed more clearly why all of us in Honors in Action have been moving towards this issue.

Who to share this with?

Friends, family, students at SMC, your jobs, etc. Share the word about what your own fellow Kappans are doing for a first time in our chapter... moving as social leaders from something that started from scratch and months of incubation.

A flyer can only show a "nice creation on Photoshop", but a conversation will implement more than just a "nice idea."

Share this flyer with anyone interested and you will be sure to spot this exact flyer on campus around the glass casings, find our bins of donations in select spots on campus, and find us there sharing with others the mission you could yourself be a part of.

Stop by. Listen. Leave with an understanding.

We appreciate the time you took to read this and hope you can stop by and learn about our mission. No signing up with your address, no credit cards, no nothing of a "hope you can help out." What we hope to do is not, "you can check us out on the website," no, what we want to do is share a conversation and let you share the news with others or contemplate about this issue that you would have never been aware of or have from own personal experience. By having the information and reflecting upon it then it will be also an opportunity to join HIA more effectively. You will be a student who stands up and will work with others, challenging yourself to create change rather than just volunteering, and become a social leader creating change.
